Description

UNIVAC 1100 (James D. Spain, "Origins of the Computer Simulation Program in Biology at Michigan Tech," Spring 2012, http://blogs.mtu.edu/biological/2012/03/origins-of-the-computer-simulation-program-in-biology-at-michigan-tech/) While digitizing the DOE Corpus, dictionary researchers used an interactive editing system on a Univac 1110 mainframe at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. "In the early days we took turns flying to Madison for a couple of weeks at a time, but by the end of the correction we could sign on to the Madison system over one of the first generally available networks by telephone from Toronto." (Amos, "Computers and Lexicography: The Dictionary of Old English." Editing, Publishing, and Computer Technology: AMS Press, Inc, 1998.)
