Objectives

Students will explore the oral/aural dimension of Old English texts by repeated recitation and/or memorization of Old English poetic passages. Students will learn the basics of Omeka and become familiar with the Dublin Core metadata standard by building an Omeka archive.

Group project: As a class, students explore the oral and performative aspects of old English poetry and prose by creating an Omeka archive of audio recordings of Old English poetry. Where necessary, students consult the Dictionary of Old English and Dictionary of Old English Corpus to explore interesting or unusual word choices in their chosen passage. Once the collection has been assembled, students create an exhibit to discuss common themes that bind together their chosen passages.
